Love the baseball cap, and the Helmut Lang
Collection quilted down coat. Love the Gucci wire rims and the "get back"
stare. Hey.. wait a minute... isn't that dude Bernie Madoff in the
building's solar heated, Nagachampa-scented, roof splash pool?
Won't
his ankle bracelet get wet in the water? Yes, that is definitely
Bernie ordering in sushi from Massa??... Wait a minute, what's going on here? I
thought he was arrested for the largest Ponzi scheme in the history of the
world. What is he doing getting a seaweed wrap and chest wax in the
sauna?...
and to
that I say ... no f*&%^ing fair, people!!

The furor over Proposition 8 is a
transparent, religion-fueled side show. While blaming the enormous voter turnout
of Blacks and Hispanics for ultimately creating a wave of support for a ban on
gay marriage, the media lacked the sophistication to assess the effect that
class and education -- rather than race -- played in the outcome of this
explosive vote.
It is not always about race.
It is not always about race. One more time with feeling, it is
not always about race. Sometimes it is about something else,
that just looks like race ... but it ain't.

...ummm...
how do I say this delicately?? I read the New York Times for intelligent,
thoughtful and relatively objective news and news analysis.
Unfortunately, after watching these two bloggers on video embedded within
yesterday's NYT Online, I felt a wave of, well, confusion.
Why, you ask? Because, a
discussion, by two adult women, two educated, sophisticated and opinionated women,
with a global online platform, regarding
the "girliness" or "femininty" of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin is, at
best, ridiculous.

Hey, Sarah Palin... If Macy's is good enough for me and
The Gap is good enough for Michelle Obama and Talbot's is good enough for
Hillary Clinton... they are good enough for you.
I am sure you heard that Sarah Palin
received at least $150,000 of the money raised for the McCain campaign by
Republican donors for a clothing allowance. The somewhat annoying part is
that she spent a good deal of that money on clothing from Neiman's.

Governor Palin is not necessarily a realistic image
for professional and driven American women. She is more symbol than
reality, more fiction than fact.
As a new mother to a special needs child and a mother to four other
children, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is becoming a symbol of the
"Superwoman." However, there are certainly arguments as to whether she is
truly a positive representation of a working mother or whether the
Republican Vice Presidential candidate is a healthy, or even a truly
realistic female image at all.

Should Hurricane Gustav touch down in New Orleans
and in the neighboring states around the Gulf of Mexico, it is sure to
re-open the racial and socio-economic wounds exacerbated by Hurricane
Katrina only three years ago. Are we ready?
What should we expect of the National Guard and FEMA? Were all of
the dollars allotted to disaster relief well spent on solid infrastructure
and levies? Will they hold?

How do you know these women are standing by
their man?
If I hear one more female media commentator say that she can't
believe that John Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, is still standing by her
man....
