Is Barack Obama a purse snatcher, masquerading as an agent of change?  Well, some of Hillary Clinton's staunch supporters seem to think so.

During a discussion with a few Clinton supporters who are vowing to make a fuss at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this week, an interesting point was raised.  Now, I have heard a few members of the Pro-Clinton group Puma(s) go so far as to say that Obama behaved in a sexist fashion during the primaries.  This is always a hard point to make however, as they can rarely point to a specific incidence of sexism from the Senator.  Usually, they fall back on making references to how the press behaved in light of the Clinton campaign, which they feel ultimately worked in favor of Obama.  As well, these Clinton supporters also drum up statements that were made by Obama surrogates that could be construed as sexist.  Remember, Harvard professor Samantha Powers referring to Hillary Clinton as a "monster?"  I would certainly consider that a sexist remark.  That it came from a female Harvard Professor and Pulitzer Prize winner was certainly curious, if not telling, about how women view each other.  Is this sexism?  Possibly a form of it.  Is it the kind that deserves a spite vote for McCain? No, I don't think so.

Usually, when pressed on the issue as to why they would choose to vote for Senator McCain over Senator Obama, even as McCain is hardly known for his progressive positions on women's issues, these women are oddly silent.  From time to time, when backed into the corner of sheer logic, one might pipe up and say, "that's not the point."   Or,  I have  heard them tiptoe around this kind of question, saying that there are "larger issues in the election than just women's issues."  Really? Like what?

Finally, a group of staunch Clinton supporters, headed for the DNC, articulated a single, angry statement to sum up Senator Obama.  They said, "I just don't trust him."

Don't trust him?  What is he going to do, get into office and snatch your purse? And, you trust Hillary (and Bill) Clinton more?

Help me out here? Is this lack of "trust" a code word for something more sinister.  That somehow these women want Democrats to believe that Obama will get into office and morph into a common criminal; someone "who can't be trusted?"

Wow, say it ain't so, ladies...
