Obama Encounters of the Third Kind?
Remember Close Encounters of
the Third Kind? The incredible Spielberg film where people
came from all over the world to a single place (a mountain) to
experience the very same event -- a meeting with "others" from another
time, planet and place.
Each of these people, no
matter where they came from, their age, gender or whatever, experienced
this heavenly thing, this transcendent pull toward a place, a feeling
and ultimately, an encounter. As you may recall, the invitation to
this event occurred over a period of time, in different places all over
the world. It culminated in an encounter only to those who

Once again, I LOVE NY!

fall a little later than usual with each passing year. As a kid,
in the 80's, I remember it being fairly cold by now, and the leaves were
pretty much on the ground.

Unless you are of a
certain age, it is easy to forget just how ridiculously
gorgeous Paul Newman was in his prime.
While he was certainly always at the top of his game, I would
say that in his prime, he was one of the best-looking men I
have ever seen. Yes? What about you folks? What's your
favorite Paul Newman thing-y?

Who cares if some of the fireworks were fake?
Recently, Yahoo and a few other portals noted
that some of the fireworks at the Olympics Opening Ceremonies were "fake."
